Okay, I know it sounds crazy, but let me explain: This is not three finished chapters in three days, but three first-time-around rough draft chapters. Even that is a little crazy, but I just did it. It was loads of fun.
Now, before I tell you how to do this, let me warn you of a few things. First, you have to have three days of nothing planned. No work, no school, no anything. Next, I didn't literally write, I actually typed. Last, outline first. I used the snowflake method, which you can find here: (http://www.advancedfictionwriting.com/articles/snowflake-method/) Just copy and paste it in your web browser if you want to try this method.
Okay, now we can get started. Here we go!
No Editing
This is hard at first, but tell your inner critic to shut up. That way, your not spending a lot of time editing. In fact, don't edit until the whole book is written. It makes it so much easier on you, and you can actually finish your book.
No Distractions
This is the hardest one for me. I will start writing, and after a few hours little thoughts start creeping into my mind. It starts out as "Well, I'm hungry. I think I'll grab a candy bar.", then it goes too "That wasn't enough! I need to make a cheese burger.", and then "My boyfriend likes cheese burgers, and I haven't seen him in a while..." and so on. Don't distract yourself from your writing, focus on that. If your writing is any good, it should be way more interesting that your real life.
No Excuses
There will be days were you don't have the urge to write. There will also be days were you want to hand out with your significant other, go to the beach, or to some friend's-sister's- roommate's birthday bash. Too bad. If your life doesn't count on it, toss it aside.
Now, I can't promise it will be done in exactly three days, but it will get done quicker this way. One time, it took me three days to write a short three page story, and another time it took me three hours to write a eleven page chapter for my book. It just depends on the day.
Thanks for reading the post! If you have any questions, comments, or anything you would like to add, please don't be afraid to put it in the comments.
